Help Us Retire Working Elephants

Our partners at Elephant Care Nepal are making important strides toward more compassionate elephant tourism. They are gradually retiring their elephants, transitioning away from riding and other exploitative practices, and embracing a hands-off, elephant-first model.

As they move toward this more ethical approach, they face a significant financial gap left by removing profits from harmful activities. We’re proud to support their fundraising efforts to ensure these elephants continue to receive the care they deserve during and after this transition.

Help Us Retire Rupa

An elderly man standing next to a large elephant, with the man touching the elephant's face. There are wrapped items on the ground in front of them. The background includes trees and a small hut.

Rupa is a female elephant in her late 40s or early 50s who has spent her entire life in captivity, giving rides to tourists day after day. Despite her age and the toll years of labor have taken on her body, she continues to work tirelessly. With your support, Rupa can finally begin a well-deserved retirement and experience a more peaceful, respectful way of life.

You can directly contribute to the care fund for the first elephant making this transition. Rupa is beginning her journey toward a life free from exploitation, and your support can help make it possible.

To support Rupa’s retirement, Elephant Care Nepal will need $36,000 each year. This covers her food, veterinary care, daily needs, and a fair salary for her dedicated mahout. Every donation helps give Rupa the peaceful life she deserves.
